Description | Both works are based on different songs from Schubert's song cycle Winterreise. This cycle is an imaginary inner journey. It creates a sense of alienation from the world and reflects the darker side of the modern idea of individuality which was being defined at the time. It is this same subjectivity which we now take for granted, and which today serves as the foundation of modern art and our notion of the artist. |

Description | ”The composition Ondulado is meant to be like a dream in which one awakens from a previous dream... a continuous flow of abstract things, events, thoughts which find their epression in sounds – eternal sounds because they existed before memory. One guitar continues to undulate in the previous guitar’s current, and this in turn gives new energy to the next guitar... The piece was inspired by Lunar Mare (Moon Seas) which are dark, vast, plains on the moon formed by ancient volcano eruptions which the first astronomers took for seas. Looking with the naked eye these plains look darker than the highlands because the iron in their makeup doesn’t reflect light as intensively.” |

Description | The project Bee Mask is operated by the Cleveland native Chris Madak who is currently residing in Philadelphia. To create ethereal sound journeys, full of references to the cosmos and Kubrik’s ”2001: A Space Odyssey”, he uses oscillators built into glass receptacles, synthesizers, guitars, as well as sound manipulation and other electronic methods and devices for experimentation. His sound has been compared to classic works by the minimalists Tony Conrad and Phill Niblock, as well as cosmic rock veteran Manuel Göttsching’s Ash Ra Tempel recordings. Bee Mask deftly creates music which often is epic in its range, but retains a reservedness – a certain abstractness. This keeps his music constantly out of reach of rational ideas, emotions or words. His recordings are currently published by one of the most progressive new music publishers’ Editions Mego sublabels Spectrum Spools. |

Description | Austrian guitarist, composer and electronic musician Christian Fennesz is recognized as the key figure and one of the most distinctive voices of electronic music today. His wide international reputation has been consolidated through a substantial overall contribution to the new musical expression. Although Fennesz has been educating formaly since an early age, first in guitar later in ethno-musicology, he decided to look for his own musical goal in the world where he could belong, expressing himself as a composer and performer. He maintained guitar as a dominant musical source changing the conventional usage and features by plugging it into laptop. Combining these musical tools as well as developing his own style in transforming and processing it, Fennesz managed to create a specific expression and sound world that is difficult to mistake for another. |

Description | Phonic Psychomimesis is a project by Raitis Upenis and Rihards Bražinskis consisting of concrete music and recordings of the environment. Riga Walkthrough is a dreamlike audio collage of sounds from the city giving a comprehensive picture of the city’s aural diversity; cars, public transportation, aeroplanes, road repairworks, crowds (in markets, stations, cafés and bars), various attractions, fireworks, sporting events, concerts, street musicians, playgrounds, the beep of supermarket registers, the creak of flagpoles, hangars, the nightly ambience of remote areas, footsteps, birds, church bells, bicycles, surveillance cameras, shopping carts, sounds from traffic lights, together with other details becomes an imaginary construct of any city. The composition has been published in file format by the Portugese publisher Cronica. The artist Ģirts Korps has created the visuals accompanying this piece which premieres at Skaņu Mežs. |
