FutureEverything 2011
»Art / Music / Ideas«
11.05. - 14.05.2011 / Manchester, England, UK

FutureEverything celebrates the best in contemporary art and discovers what’s coming next in creative new media, present world premieres, urban interventions, and digital crafts. In 2011 the festival took over 4 Piccadilly Place, the location of the FutureEverything Art Hub, Conference and Workshops.

Conference

The FutureEverything Conference took place on 12th and 13th May at Four Piccadilly Place, situated right in the heart of Manchester city centre. The conference was one of the leading UK events that focused on the latest developments in creative and digital technologies.

Ideas to be discussed over the course of the event included emotional computing, integration of digital culture within urban environments, future mobilities and open data. With questions such as ‘how is journalism shaping and being shaped by open data?’ and ‘what does collaborative media offer for communities?’ being debated.

ECAS – Festival As Lab

FutureEverything transformed the festival into a lab where we could experiment and play with future art and ideas. Living lab projects engage festival audiences in innovativeforms of participatory art, and explore new ways to share information.

A FutureEverything innovation, the Festival As Lab theme has already been adopted by festivals around the world including CTM (Berlin), CYNETART (Dresden), New Forms (Vancouver) and MUTEK (Brussels).

ECAS supported events during the festival:

DescriptionThe "internet of things", refers to a 24/7 form of computing in which every device is connected in some way to the internet. However, many versions of this notion rely upon one significant premise: that the thing remains in existence. Dr Chris Speed forecasts a near future where the digital "ghosts" of things have the potential to live on within the networked society-searchable against any other data from the past, present or future.
